Obtener WooCommerce categorías de productos de WordPress

Estoy tratando de obtener las categorías de productos de WooCommerce a través de una función en mi tema de WordPress

El código anterior devuelve algunos productos, pero las categorías de productos.

Cuando incluí echo '<li><a href="">'.get_categories().'</a></li>'; en el código anterior, retorna como una matriz. ¿Cómo arreglo esto?

Esto listará todas las categorías y subcategorías de nivel superior bajo ellas jerárquicamente. no utilice la consulta interna si solo desea mostrar las categorías de nivel superior. Estilo como quieras.

Mejorando Suman.la respuesta de hassan95 agregando un enlace a la subcategoría también. Reemplace el código siguiente:

$sub_cats = get_categories( $args2 );
    if($sub_cats) {
        foreach($sub_cats as $sub_category) {
            echo  $sub_category->name ;
        }

    }

Con: 

$sub_cats = get_categories( $args2 );
            if($sub_cats) {
                foreach($sub_cats as $sub_category) {
                    echo  '<br/><a href="'. get_term_link($sub_category->slug, 'product_cat') .'">'. $sub_category->name .'</a>';
                }
            }

O si también desea un contador para cada subcategoría, reemplace con esto: 

$sub_cats = get_categories( $args2 );
            if($sub_cats) {
                foreach($sub_cats as $sub_category) {
                    echo  '<br/><a href="'. get_term_link($sub_category->slug, 'product_cat') .'">'. $sub_category->name .'</a>';
