Para usar FusedLocationProviderClient con Google Play Services 11 y superior:

Para usar (ahora en desuso) FusedLocationProviderApi:

Si su proyecto utiliza Google Play Services 10 o inferior, usar FusedLocationProviderApi es la opción óptima.

El FusedLocationProviderApi ofrece menos consumo de batería que el antiguo open API de source LocationManager. Además, si ya está utilizando los servicios de Google Play para Google Maps, no hay razón para no usarlo.

Aquí hay una clase de actividad completa que coloca un marcador en la ubicación actual y también mueve la cámara a la posición actual.

También comprueba el permiso de ubicación en tiempo de ejecución para Android 6 y versiones posteriores (Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo). Para manejar correctamente la comprobación de tiempo de ejecución del permiso de ubicación que es necesaria en Android M / Android 6 y más tarde, debe asegurarse de que el usuario ha otorgado a su aplicación el permiso de ubicación antes de llamar a mGoogleMap.setMyLocationEnabled(true) y también antes de solicitar actualizaciones de ubicación.
